Gretsch Acoustic Guitars

Which type of guitar for a beginner? Acoustic or semi-acoustic?

I’d like to eventually play a semi-acoustic like bands that I see but I don’t know if it’d be better to start with an acoustic. I play viola and I’m in a band. I’ve been looking at Gretsch and Epiphone for semi-acoustic and Takamine for acoustic. What do you think? I guess we play what people would call alternative.
also called hollow-body electric

I personally would go for the acoustic for the beginner, but that is just your choice. What is important tho, is to get a guitar with a neck that fit’s your fingers, if it is too wide it will make it harder to get the chords, but if it is too small, your fingers will bunch up…Why not get the Superior sound of the acoustic and put an electric bridge on it to get that beautiful sound out there? Look at Ovation, before you buy. They have a true acoustic with the electronics built in and you can’t beat the quality of the guitar or it’s sound, and it is relatively inexpensive.
