Solid Body Electric Guitar
Can i put a tremelo arm on the Dean ML XM Solid Body Electric Guitar ?
I am wondering because I’ve looked at a thousand websites and this simple question has not been asked, so i am asking now. Also i have browsed a thousand pictures and it looks like it has the correct bridge it just doesn’t come with a Tremelo arm ( Whammy bar ) any help would be appreciated thanks.
If the guitar below is the one in question, the answer is yes, however… there are several things you would want to consider.
1 – A Bigsby would be the best option, but would only give you mild vibrato, and you would want to consider replacing your bridge with a roller bridge.
2 – You will have to change the location of where the string ends and the V plate and grommets on the reverse side of the guitar would be useless.
3 – If you decided on putting a real tremolo like a Kahler, Floyd Rose or Fender style tremolo, you would need to have the front and rear routed (not rear for Kahler).
With any of these choices it is definitely possible, but it will have holes from where the strings went through still visible. It also will cost more than buying a better quality guitar that already comes equipped with a tremolo of any kind. Purchasing and installing a Floyd Rose or Kahler will run you upwards of $400. The Bigsby may cost around $150 and you may be able to install it yourself. Its not a recommended installation on most guitars unless they are expensive and are not offered with a tremolo (like the Gibson Les Paul). And in that case, you would seriously lower the collectability of the guitar, but if its essential to playing, its worth it.
